European Pesticide Regulation Set for a Change

TfG Assists in RHS project on Conservation of Garden Plants

In 1978 the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) held a conference on the Practical Role of Gardens in the Conservation of Rare and Threatened Plants. Out of that conference was born the National Council for the Conservation of Plantsand Gardens (NCCPG). In 2006 the RHS and the NCCPG, held a two day workshop to review achievements and to set the agenda for the medium term. A resulting Action Plan was published, (www.rhs.org.uk/growingheritage/ActionPlanFinal.pdf)

TfG molecular models in print

Molecular models prepared by Nick have been included in a recent publication on insect hormone research. The modelling is a very small part of a high quality scientific publication by Dr Rob Weaver's group at CSL in York (www.csl.gov.uk).

On 16th May 2008 at York, Nick will speak at a workshop on how the techniques of QSAR have evolved from a laboratory research technique to a regulatory tool:

Sweet Smell of Success

TfG have been helping a UK-based start up company to comply with EU legislation on the sale of cosmetics in Europe. The company has been awarded European distributor status for a range of cosmetic products manufactured and sold in Thailand. The products are based on natural plant-derived substances but have to undergo safety assessments to comply with the Cosmetic Products (Safety) Regulations 2004 in the UK within the European Directive 76/768/EEC. TfG have assisted the company in producing the required documentation and obtaining certification through an approved cosmetic chemist.

More Celebrity Science

At the beginning of 2007 the Charity Sense About Science produced a leaflet in which the scientific ramblings of celebrities were countered with facts from a group of scientists of which Nick was one. They have reviewed the situation again this year and the results have just been published and can be found HERE
